Caladenia pulchra - Slender Spider Orchid

The Slender Spider Orchid is distinguished by its much taller stems (up to 50cm). The flowers are quite large (8-15cm) with a small, narrow labellum and long dangling, tangling petals. The colour is extremely variable from nearly all red to nearly all white. The petals are often so long that the dorsal sepal droops backwards. The common name derives from the slender look of the flowers, due to the dangling petals being positioned close to the stem.

The Nyabing Spider Orchid is similar to the Slender Spider Orchid differing in having a slightly larger labellum, shorter petals and sepals that are held more stiffly, rather than dangling close to the stem. It is found mainly in the Nyabing area, but extends as far north as Mukinbudin.

This orchid is named after Pat Dundas. It is similar to the Blood Spider Orchid and differs in having larger flowers that often have white markings on the labellum and petals. It is found mainly in the Moora - Watheroo area.
