This is one of the first orchids to flower in the year. Hare Orchids often forms colonies of thousands of plants, with relatively few producing flowers each year. Due to their darker colouring and small flowers (1-3cm), these orchids can be hard to spot. The favoured habitat is sandy areas. One feature of these orchids is that if they are not pollinated, they last a very long time and can be recognisable as late as September.
