Christ longs for all to repent.
Dear God,
Thank You for caring for my whole body and soul, and for my life. I am also grateful, that I am led to repentance and given the desire to seek forgiveness. I am also grateful for the enlightenment I have received from Romans 2:4 in which Paul reminds us of Your goodness, forbearance and longsuffering. We mostly do not appreciate that it is Your goodness God, that leads us to repentance. Even when all mankind was deep in sin, it was our Father God, Who prepared a way out, and so allow all people to be reconciled, to His Holy Self, through His Son Jesus Christ.
Romans 5: 8 “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Paul writes deeply appreciating what Jesus had done for each sinner; worldwide none are left out. Not only had we been justified by the spilt blood of Jesus, we had been saved by what Jesus had done on the cross from the wrath of God. For unrighteousness puts us at enmity with God the Father. The mind is again drawn to more comprehension of what the shedding of blood and dying on the cross meant for every sinner, due to Jesus taking up His life again after the 3 days dead in the tomb. Verse 10 “……much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.”
The reconciliation comes when I accept that Jesus died on His cross for my sins. It is not the action alone of my repenting of my sins that reconciles me with God. I now understand that I do not receive the blessing of being forgiven of my sins, until I actually confess my sins, but that did not place forgiveness in God’s heart, for it was already there. My sorrow for my sins followed by the confession of my sins enables me to receive Gods’ existing forgiveness. My confession does not change God’s attitude toward me, but it does change my attitude toward God, by the convicting power of the Holy Spirit.
1 John 1: 9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Thank You for the process of sanctification, that is wrought in the heart that is willing, and that if we allow, You our Saviour will at our request place willingness for change in our heart.
Amen
