Matthew 6:9……”Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. V10 Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”

Dear God,

I am grateful to You for Your continuing unbounding love, and for every blessing that You bestow on me.  Today fill me with Your Spirit, so that I can rise above this tiredness and heaviness of body and mind.

Teach me to truly reverence and honour You in my mind and life, so that reverence and honour to You will naturally be part of my prayers and worship, throughout each day.  As I read and pray in obedience to Your will combined with wanting to be part of Your kingdom, please  bring the principles of Your kingdom into my heart; fostering my hope  for Your kingdom to soon be established upon this earth, so Your order of love and purity will be universal.  After all, in the light of this prospect, why would I (we) want to keep this order of dimness, diluted happiness, variable love that even at the best is a shadow of the heavenly and often turns on and off, with large areas for too many, of hate, persistent unhappiness and hopelessness?

The scriptures reveal that prayer is truly the only answer, to our personal and corporate sin, disobedience and distress.  No need is too small to prayer about.  No one who is contrite has barred themselves from accessing the heart of Jesus.  When we (anyone) truly repent and pray for forgiveness, it is granted.  No matter if it is one sin or a lifetime of sin and disobedience.  Matthew 6: 8 “……….For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.”

Jesus clearly taught not only how we should pray, but the type of prayers and attitudes that are not acceptable and cause our prayers to be unanswered.  V5 “And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites.  For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men.  Assuredly, I say to you, that they have their reward.”  There it is again, self-focus, that has caused so much problem for individuals and in the world since the very beginning.  It is also evident, that we have a choice, we can go for public notice and accolades to the exclusion of serving and honouring God, and they will be our only reward, for they do not bring the heavenly reward.

Jesus taught that when we seek You with an undivided heart, with no other motive V6 “But you, when you pray, go into your room, pray to your Father who is in the secret place, and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.”  There is a tendency for us to think that the more words we use or to say the same words repeatedly will find Your ear better and bring a more favour, but Jesus has taught us this is not so, V7 “And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do.  For they think that they will be heard for their many words.  V8 “Therefore do not be like them…………..”

Father, as I have reread these texts, I can see my areas of need, and I thank You for this, please fill me with Your Holy Spirit again today, and lead me not only in my attitudes, but in my prayers and life lived because of You.  I am grateful for this new day of opportunity, and ask that I can be Your true servant, that brings glory to Your name.  I give You my praise and deep gratitude.

Amen

1 Samuel 3:10 “Now the Lord came, and stood and called as at other times, ‘Samuel! Samuel!’  And Samuel answered, ‘Speak Lord, for Your servant hears.’”

Joshua 24:23, 24 “Now therefore,” he said, “put away the foreign god which are among you, and incline your heart to the Lord God of Israel.” V. 24, ‘And the people said to Joshua, the Lord our God, we will serve, and His voice we will obey!’

Dear God,

I am in my quiet place this morning and again I rejoice in You and because You have placed me in a location in which, I can easily be drawn to You, through the beauty of green, flowers and bird calls and songs; they delight my ears and eyes.

I am contemplating the last days and hours of Joshua, who had been Your valiant warrior and ambassador, as well as leader of the Israelite nation after Moses. As Moses had towards the end of his time as their leader, Joshua was reminding them of what You had done previously for the Children of Israel, as well as stating that they could not give You a divided heart, and still be a successful as a nation in the promised country.

This message is true for us who are counted as ‘spiritual Israel’, in every age.  We cannot sit on the fence, so to speak, or dabble with non-Christian belief’s etc., on the side and not be drawn away from You.  In the wilderness wanderings, their forefathers had served gods fashioned by human hands instead of the one true Omnipotent God.  Joshua had shown them a better way, when he said in Joshua 14:15 “…but as for me and my house we will serve the Lord.”  The people as before, kept saying, “we will serve the Lord”, but often that did not mean they were going to change their ways – or totally commit to following Gods requests, even though You as the one true God had charged them at Mount Sinai with the words, “Thou shalt have no other gods before Me.” Amazingly Joshua reveals some families within the tribes of Israel, had been carrying around false, foreign idols for all the 40 years of their wanderings.  He also tells them to claim to serve You, yet still keep their idols does not please You, for it reveals that their hearts are not completely true to You the God of heaven.  The same is true for us as Christians, and we can personally apply Joshua 24: 23 “…Put away the foreign gods which are among you, and incline your heart to the God of Israel.”  Only then can we also learn about You and have the interactive relationship that You desire to have with each of us.

The child Samuel, who was given by Hannah to God as a young child, is an example of how to love You our God, with a whole heart.  He obediently responded to the Your voice and did as asked, which You require of us all.

When I attend to what I am reading, with my whole heart and mind, You speak to me through Your Holy word very clearly.

Again today, I say ‘speak Lord for Your servant is listening’.  I have determined to follow and obey You, not in my own strength, for I cannot, but in the love and strength that You God, give me.

Amen

Hebrews 12:1 “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.”

Dear God,

I praise You for all creation that is softly glowing just outside my window, just now.  The skies are a little darkening, following a fall of misty rain, enclosing the different birds, calling and chirping in their happiness.  All of which enhances the various green hues of tree, shrub and bush, with glowing white, soft yellows, amber, peach, apricot and deep pink, in a proud display of their petals atop and around each individual rose bush.

Thank You for this healing view that greets me today and I really appreciate all You have created, and are creating and maintaining each day.  Only You as God can create and care for each life.  I ask for the wisdom and strength of the Holy Spirit, so that I will never take for granted, Your loving formed creation, which sadly, has been much defaced by Satan’s influence, and the lack of care, we of the human race have shown toward Your handwork. Sadly not to care for Your creation with respect has sometimes included me.  I am sorry for that.

I know that during all my life time I am alive physically by Your creative powers and grace. You want for me to be Your witness and blessing to others, today and each day, and so bring You glory.  Thank You for this privilege and enabling.

Today as Paul did, I know I do not live for myself or without witnesses, which is why he tells us to run our Christian race, free of any ‘weight’ and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.  Hebrews 12:2 tells me (us) the only way this can be done, is by “looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”  For me (us) Jesus gave all of Himself, please keep me focused upon Him, acknowledging with my whole heart what He has done for me, and of my great need and insufficiency, apart from Him.  Jesus in His life and ministry before the giving of His life, put all else aside and revealed Gods glory and the healing wisdom, love and peace that comes from heaven.

Thank You again Jesus, that as my Shepherd and example, it is You who all the while gives me inspiration.  We have You to thank, that even though the Holy Spirit had always moved upon the hearts of people, He was sent as a Comforter after the Your death to lead me (us) to God the Father, and to enable me (us) to live a true Christian life.

Amen

Luke 15:1-3 “Then all the tax collectors and the sinners drew near to Him to hear Him.  And the Pharisees and scribes complained, saying, “This Man receives sinners and eats with them.  So He spoke this parable to them……..”

(Jesus went on to talk about a man who had lost one of his 100 sheep.  He went and searched for that one sheep until it was found.  Then the shepherd was very happy and rejoiced.  Then of a woman who had she lost her coin in her house, and she also searched until it was found, and with joy called her neighbours to rejoice with her.  Then the story of when there was also much joy in a fathers heart when, the son who had squandered his inheritance in a far country, returned home in rags and contrition.)

Dear God,

Thank You for Your love and provision for me and all the people around me.  Thank You for my life and for keeping me safe to embark upon this new day, able to walk through this time given to me with the ability to enjoy Your gifts and provision.

You love all people.  But it is those of humble, searching hearts who see their own lack of righteousness and need of You that can be forgiven of every sin and brought to Yourself.  Thank You for first placing this desire into my heart.  Your love and generosity know no bounds, for then You lead me to places of joy ; whilst the righteousness of Jesus covers my unworthiness.  No bottle could contain the joy and righteousness You give, but we mere mortals can rejoice in them, with filled hearts and minds, and to those not so blessed we can say ‘taste and see for the Lord is good.’

Jesus tells of the joy of the shepherd, when he found his one lost sheep, out of his original 100, who then called his friends, Luke 15:6…..”rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!”  Unlike the Pharisees who condemned all sinners, Jesus knew it was absolutely worthwhile to bring sinners to repentance, Luke 15:7 “I say to you that likewise there will be joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need not repentance.” And in verse 10, “Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

God forgive me, if I am casual about sin, my own, as well as for not being more active in seeking to bring to You anyone else that I am in contact with, who is burdened and in need or forgiveness and peace.

Please alert me to my often preoccupied mind that cannot truly rejoice when another person renounces their sinful life and practices and with repentance give their life to You.  In the light of the fact that all heaven rejoices with these people, who am I as Your child, not do so?  This will only be my action/reaction if at the time; I am not abiding in You, through premeditated/unforgiven sin or me being preoccupied!

Praise Your Holy name, for You bring all our spiritual needs, to our attentions, little by little, and then provide Your power to overcome, and grow and progress by Your grace.

Happily in the words of scripture we find hope for every one of us, no matter our past and besetment’s.

Amen

Luke 14:27 “Who ever does not bear his cross, and come after Me cannot be my disciple.”

Dear God,  I thank You, for going with me everyplace I go, and for  preserving me from harm, or even death, despite me making errors of judgement, when I am not attentive.   You are a God of absolute love, and worthy of all my praise, my whole heart and obedience.

As I go about the activities in my daily life; talk with You and prepare a post for the blog, please fill me with Your love, wisdom and power, (because we all know I am not overflowing with these abilities otherwise).  I crave and would appreciate every needed spiritual gift that You wish to bestow, upon me.  I give thanks, for the words of scripture, recorded in Luke 14:1-6, in which Jesus is shown as associating with all types of people whilst He fearlessly performed healings in front of His critics and those out to kill Him.  Because of His loved filled heart, He could never leave a disabled or sick person afflicted, and instead conferred upon them, freedom of body and soul.

Today You hear my prayers for forgiveness, and freely forgive me yet another time, and then I am given freedom from my sin, just as surely as if Jesus had physically come my way.  Not that this gives me license to go and intentionally sin again and again.  But You know me all too well, and that I was born in sin, and have told us in Your word, that not until my body is made new at Your second coming, will I be set free from the sin that is within me.

I am so glad that when You dwell within me Jesus, King of heaven, and because I love You, progress is likely to be made within my heart and life.  For I know more humility is needed in my heart and worship, and can be produced within me by the Holy Spirit.  Then I will see myself and spiritual needs more clearly and thereby gain a clearer comparative view of You as You are; in spotless purity.

Today it is my desire and renewed commitment, to serve You with my whole heart and not be tempted to make excuses about why it is not timely to fully accept You and invitation to give you my all.  I also renew and consolidate my excitement and hope that I will in heaven sit with Jesus at the marriage suppler of the Lamb – Jesus my Saviour.   What an inestimable privilege for we sin afflicted little people of earth!!

I again determine that nothing or any person must become more important or take up time, which would keep me from giving my full allegiance, obedience and service to You my God and Saviour.

Amen

Luke 13:23, 24 “Then one said to Him, “Lord, are there few who are saved?  And He said to them, strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able.”

Dear God,

Please fill me with Your wisdom, love and strength, as well as discernment whenever II read Your words and give You my worship and adoration now and each day.  I delight to read Your sacred scriptures, and then allow the Holy Spirit to convict me about how to apply Your principles to my life.  Thank You for hearing my prayers, and please continue to draw me to Yourself, so that I can never be moved from Your side, no matter what occurs around me or to me.

I am beginning to see, that as the events of these last years have occurred, it is truly possible for the very elect to be deceived.  For, words rain down upon us through different media outlets that may be correct, or slightly in error, many of which could give me and others a wrong view of Your character; (which has always been Satan’s issue and work.)

I seek You humbly and simply today, please never allow me to believe error, or in any way depart from loving You with all my heart, soul, mind and body.  Now in this time of religious freedom in this country, it is for all of us to freely learn of You and commit ourselves each day afresh.  I thank You for the opportunity, which is so sadly denied to others in some parts of the world.

Please give me wisdom in the activities that I undertake, for I know I have been over committed in the past.   This was not ideal for me and mine on several fronts, and also deprived me of the opportunity to become more grounded in Your Holy Word.  I am sorry that I have not taken the time to make more effort in memorization of scripture, as I have in the past promised You that I would do.

The way to Your kingdom is narrow Jesus says, and will not be the popular way for people to travel.  Today I again thank You for the privilege of being Your child, with the hope of eternal life in my heart.  I have this same hope for this to be the reality for the others I know and will meet along life’s journey.

Amen

Luke 12:40 “Therefore you also be ready for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”

Dear God,

I praise Your blessed name, for You are The, Holy, Majestic and Almighty God, as well as Creator of all life and matter.  All Your creation is most beautiful to look at and to listen to!  All that man makes, whether lovely, ugly, and productive or not, have all been made from the base materials that You have created.  I appreciate that You have given each us in varying degrees these skills along with an industrious spirit.   I also appreciate the end products that man/woman makes: such as lovely furniture, glass, clothes, or even delicious healthy meals, which reveal Your gifts in a way, that can cause people to remember and appreciate that there is an Almighty Creator.  Sadly many live out their gift of life without care or thought, or even gratitude to their Creator.  This unbelief and unmindful attitude can influence how we use and interact with Your creation, which can lead to widespread incautious destruction and slaughter. These attitudes too often predominate, in the use Your gift of food; causing industry to also pull it apart, deface it, refine it, and only use certain parts of the grain and other plant products, and thus producing end products, that cannot sustain healthy life.  Alternatively these same ungrateful attitudes toward Your creative provision, is reflected when some of us choose because of unmindfulness or subliminal training, to largely  refuse Your gifts of whole plant foods In preference for a diet that is predominately based upon flesh foods and animal products.  There is such a varied variety of colourful plant foods that science verifies are beneficial for our health that You have provided.  What a shame when we do not avail themselves of them.

Fill us (me) with Your care for those who are starving or have little nutritious food to eat.

In all our ungrateful, uncaring ways toward Your creation, please forgive our rudeness  and humble our hearts before You, so we can seek You in humility of spirit upon our knees, and then to get to know You in Your Holy word.  Strengthen us to do all to Your glory, which includes doing our (my) part in caring for my individual body and my environment.

Please forgive me for all my sins, but today especially reveal to me the ways in which I am not respectful to You, regarding how I feed and use my body, mind and soul, so that I can better prepare for eternal life with Jesus.  But in the meantime, by the influence of the Holy Spirit I can be Your true and faithful child who is willing and has the strength to answer Your call to be used as Your influence for someone else to also find You as their personal Saviour.

I believe according to the scriptures, that Jesus is coming soon, and unless I tell others I do not really love You best, and am not serious about greeting Jesus as His child,  along with many others.

That is a sobering thought that You have put into my mind today.  Only by Your intervention and strength can I be and do as You desire.  I am willing even though I know there will be a cost; as well as much joy.

Amen

Luke 11:28 “But He said, more than that, blessed are those, who hear the word of God and keep it!”

Dear God,

You are worthy of all love and praise.  You are the foundation and source of all love and hope, upon this earth.  Not only are You our Creator, but also the fount of all that is pure and good.  Today I have considered the Israelite king Saul, as he continued his sink into sin, to the point of being prepared to murder David and his own son Jonathon.  Both who were loyal to him, despite his unpredictable behaviour.  Then he sank even further in his apostasy toward You God, by ordering the murder of 85 priests and all their family members, just because he thought they knew the place David was hiding; for whom he was insanely jealous.  This is all so amazing for one who had loved You and was chosen by You, some years before, to lead your people as their earthly king.

In my reading in Luke 11, Jesus rebukes the priests, lawyers and teachers for making everything to do with the God of heaven, a burden with their laws and requirements of apparent spirituality, when all along their own hearts were deceitful, unloving and hard!

Lord, please forgive any hard heartedness on my part or the relying on my own actions to save me, unto eternal life. Please be my strength as I determine to give my heart humbly and whole heartedly to You today and each day.  King Saul, his appointed reign by never quite doing as he was asked by You, and instead doing things in his own way, and then maintaining he had in fact done as he should have done.

How easy it is for us humans to do the same as he did, and then wonder why we are not close to You, and begin to gradually pull away from that close relationship with You that we need and You desire.   Please reveal to me my heart and when I am at risk of not serving You with an obedient, humble, and reliant heart.

Dear God

Thank You for keeping me, family and friends safe over the past day, and that I have risen to greet a new day.  In which I seek You again in prayer, and in Your blessed and holy word.

I am also grateful for family and friends who show their love and care by their actions.

Today I have read in Matthew 23: 1-7 that Jesus again, as yesterday, had occasion to rebuke the priests and scribes for their teaching and behaviours.  They upheld the Law of Moses to the people and yet did not themselves follow what they taught the people.

Forgive me please if my heart is hypocritical, or lacking in love and care toward others.   In Your word I understand, that to know You, is to love You and also all Your other creation, for all are worthy of Your love, so how can I offer less and say I am Your child?  Clearly I cannot! Luke 12:19-31, reassures me I have no need to be anxious, for You already know all my needs and will meet them.  Instead Jesus says to “seek the kingdom of God and all these things will be added to you.”

Thankfully today, I rest in Your love and care, with the hope of the reality of the kingdom of God when Jesus comes again, to take us there.

My heart sings with hope.  It is a wonderful future to contemplate.

Praises to You, God, Most Holy.

Amen

Luke 11:9 “So I say to you ask, and it will be given to you: seek, and you will find: knock, and it will be opened to you.”

Dear God,

Thank You for hearing and answering my prayers for forgiveness and to be filled with Your Spirit.  Thank You for watching over me all through each day, as well as leading me to Yourself.  I also give thanks that in the Bible, there is a record of how Jesus taught His disciples to pray, in ‘The Lord’s Prayer’.

Please strengthen and grow my faith in You, so that I can and will praise You for all things; whether, good or seemingly bad.  Impress me with the reality of my need to bring prayers to You with persistence, as Jesus illustrated in His example of the man petitioning his friend in the middle of the night for bread.  Then because they were friends, and because of the persistent knocking, his friend did get up and supply the bread.  I thank You for the assurance, that my request will be granted, and that You will give me spiritual blessings, for “’Your door is always open’”.  I am so very grateful that for me and all of us, You are a just and loving God and Your answers to my prayers are not based upon my personal conduct.  For You know my heart and the remorse I have for my misdeeds, that You have placed in my heart, that causes me to repent and confess, which leads to my being forgiven by You and reconciled to You.  When I seek You with a true heart, I can ask with courage and belief, for You have promised to always receive me when I pray thus, as given in Luke 11:10 “For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened to you.”

I with assurance know that my soul will be kept safe, when I love and serve God with a pure and undivided heart.  I also know that I cannot dally with Satan’s temptations, and have my soul fully guarded, for it is written in Luke 11:23 “He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with me scatters.”

I seriously reflect on the truth, that if I am not obedient to You, dear Jesus, Son of God, and do not tell others about You, then I am not working with You, my Saviour.  Sadly and even more seriously, I realize, that then my own eternal salvation would be at risk, because I have regularly neglected to speak for You and obey You¸ and so at that time, make it harder for others to know and accept You as their Saviour.  Oh Lord strengthen me, for this must never be, for I then would be working as one who scatters precious people, that You desire to gather and save, as Your own.

Amen

April 10

Luke 10: 27 “So He answered and said, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength and with all your mind and your neighbour as yourself.”

Dear God,

I give thanks that You are a personal God to all and I can also call You my God.  You invite me to accept You each day, and in these minutes before dawn, I do so again.  I have found my portions of scripture very uplifting and thank You for the wonderful gift of the Holy Spirit that we are invited to ask into our hearts each day.  He leads me in my reading and gives me understanding and self-application that is new and fresh, with each reading; for which I am very grateful.

King Saul in 1 Samuel 15:31, had gone out against the Amalekites, at God’s command, but had not completely obeyed God, about killing the entire enemy and all the animals.  It was the practice of the surrounding heathen people, to bring back the king and the best animals as trophies of war. You had asked Saul not to follow this practice, but Saul as the ‘big man’ had done so. Apparently You had been giving him another chance to be obedient, after previous disobedience.  Even now Saul did not admit his wrong and defended his actions, and blamed his men, and piously maintained that the animals were ‘for burnt offerings to the Lord’.  To which Samuel replies, that it would be God’s delight when He was obeyed, for it was not the sacrifices that gave God delight.  In strong words, he also chastised Saul with the words, ‘rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft” and “stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.”

Saul now was rejected by You as being fit to be king of the Israelite nation; who were Your chosen people.   These people had been chosen to be an example of Your love within the heart of mankind and the abundant blessings that were poured out on Your faithful own; for the surrounding heathen nations to see.  For these chosen people, and any one claiming to be children of God, it was Your requirement that they (we) give their (our) hearts in love and obedience. From Your heart of love, the blessings were bestowed abundantly upon any loving obedient person in response.  This is because You just love to please, cherish and love us; as is the way of love.  All through history You have freely forgiven any transgressions, but not the person who is unrepentant of their sin, rebellion and disobedience and continues on that path.

It is sobering to consider that rebellion against God shows for me at that time at least, have given my allegiance to Satan, and to be stubborn against Gods requests is not only sin, but means I have made myself as an idol, above the one true living God.  Please continue to strive with me, so that I will see when I need to repent and in prayer continue to ask for the infilling of Your Holy Spirit, so that I can be obedient to You, no matter the cost to my own idea’s.

Another example of the difficulty of giving allegiance to You first or instead to our self, is given by Jesus, when a young lawyer came to test him, as given in Luke10:25 “Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life”, in answer, Jesus got the young man to interrupt God’s law, which he did, in the passage of Luke 10: 17, revealed his understanding, that You want me (all) to love Him with all heart, soul, strength and mind, then our neighbour is to be loved as our/myself.  Thereby it is evident that when I have given You my all, I will delight to do as asked, and care for any fellow human in need, that comes my way.

Only You can change my heart dear Lord, and because I am willing and have asked, I know You are with me in this and all such prayers.

Amen
